Has just been quite substantially renovated, though I've yet to pop in. 4 hand pumps now on the bar - London Pride and I think Seafarers on sale the other day.

I spent (at 14.00 today) ten minutes waiting at the bar with my fiver in my hand. There were three other people there drinking - I was the only one waiting to be served. The young lady behind the bar ignored me - she was busy pumping clear water from the London Pride tap. When she got around to asking me what I wanted, I commented on my new-found invisibility and she poured me the drink. That gave her time to think of a defence, so, instead of saying sorry for the unnecessary delay in serving me, she said, 'Oh, I thought you were there waiting there for someone to join you.' So it may not be in contravention of the Licensing Act to be alone in a pub, but it certainly appears to be contrary to the norms of the Marquis. She didn't need to be objectionable; a simple, sincere apology would have sufficed. I regard the lady's behaviour as an insult and I won't be returning to the Marquis.

Only 1 beer on
Staff were uninterested in serving
Upstairs is for diners only.

Lots of much better pubs nearby, avoid.

On my visit here on Friday there were three barmaids and only one other customer other than myself, but we both had to wait to be served and even then he was served first even though I was waiting longer. The barmaid knew his drink without him saying anything so he was obviously a regular. I decided to leave without purchasing a drink as they obviously aren’t that bothered about my custom and I only popped in to check it out on my way to the far superior Harp along the way.

Anyway, this is a thin wedge shaped modernised pub that has a selection of premium lagers and two hand pumps, but only Pride was available as the other was off.

I’ll not be returning in any great hurry.

This pub serves as something of an overspill from the more popular 'Harp' next door. I popped here because I wanted a table and the Harp was too busy, and decided to try a few of the unusual foriegn lagers on offer.
The pub is fairly smart and tidy, if a little bland downstairs, but I thought the upstairs seating area was very nice and a window seat gave a fairly decent view of life milling about on the street below.
The beers were pretty expensive though, with some of the bottled lagers coming in at over £4 a go, but I didn't try the pints, so I'm not sure how they compare.
