Last 3 reviews by "people" who haven't reviewed another pub... methinks the manager of this place needs to get on with running the pub and not posting on here!

Says a lot really, doesn't it, about the place?

My husband and I have been visiting Shrewsbury every year to see our daughter and we always make a point to go to the Hole in the wall for a meal.
The food is very very good value for money, and we have never had a bad meal once.
The staff are very friendly including who we also to believe to be the manager and my husband has noted even one of the slightly eccentric chefs (that we do not believe we had seen last year) seems happy and very bouncy when he has come out to the bar for a drink and only makes the place seem more family run.

I would recommend this pub to everyone

I think this is a wonderful little place! Shrewsbury is such a beautiful town and there are so many places to eat that it is difficult to choose....however if like me, you want a happy medium of dining then this is the place to go.
My husband and I are from Telford and are relatively new to the Shrewsbury scene. We have eaten at The Hole in the Wall on a couple of occasions as we like the accessability of the venue and the varied and value for money menu. Previously we have been more than pleased with the acceptable service and food. However, today was a little bit different. Having ventured around town we again decided to lunch here, I like to avoid change so opted for an old favourite. The pub was quite busy (bustly not lively) but we were not kept waiting, although my salad came out not as described and not consistent with previous orders of the same dish!!! Now I hate to complain but I also feel that I do the chef a disservice if I don't point out my disappointment so I called over a member of staff and voiced my concerns. The young man swiftly whisked my plate away and said he would speak to the kitchen only to return moments later with a complimentary voucher for a free meal and to inform me that a revived meal would make it's way to me shortly with the chef's regards!!!
Wow!!! You don't get that kind of service in many high end hotels...have to say I am hugely impressed with the politeness and professionalism of the staff, the good will of the chef and the speed and grace in which the situation was dealt with. I was not expecting that at all and have to say that I think the staff on duty on 04/08/2011 are a credit to the company. I always enjoy my time here but now I will enjoy it all the more knowing that customers are still made to feel valued and welcome!

Stayed in Shrewsbury for a night last week and visited this pub, after reading previous comments on here I have to say I was amazed.
I had a Gammon and Eggs and my husband had the Mixed Grill, the quality of the food and service were absolutely amazing, my husband also had a pint of Pedigree (he is in to his Real Ales) no complaints here, he claimed it was "The perfect pint"
I asked a member of staff about the history of the pub as it seemed old and rather ornate, he explained that it was once 2 pubs and that there are records dating back hundreds of years, he then directed me to several photos and details around the pub offering up futher information.
Definately a top ten pub out of the many I've visited, freindly staff, great atmosphere, immaculately clean (even the toilets) not forgetting top class ale and pub grub !

Visited Hole in the Wall again earlier this afternoon and enjoyed 4 pints of Carling with some steak and chips. Delicious! I've always enjoyed coming here over the years and despite the negative remarks from other BITE members this place has always been a mainstay on my list of Favourite Pubs in Shrewsbury town centre.
